Betty Anna Owen

Betty Anna Owen, 94, passed away peacefully Saturday, April 20, 2024 after a short illness.

Ms. Betty was born April 29, 1929 in Bad Kissingen, Germany to the late, Johann and Rosa Apfelbacher. She came to the United States in 1963 with her late husband, Harry T. Owen, who was a member of the US Army. After several stateside duty stations they were transferred to Ft. Stewart, Georgia in the early ‘70’s where they purchased a home and put down roots. Ms. Betty was a devout Catholic and a faithful parishioner of St. Stephen Catholic Church. She was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, her brother, Heinrich, and her son, Bernard. 

Ms. Betty enjoyed attending the German coffees with her friends, she also enjoyed attending services at St. Stephen’s and talking to her German childhood friends, as well as the friends she developed along the way. Ms. Betty was an avid reader, and she enjoyed knitting and sharing her labors of love with others. She loved to walk and explore Hinesville on her many walks around town. Ms. Betty will be greatly missed by the many friends she has left behind.

A heartfelt thank you is extended to Regency Southern Care Hospice, Brown’s Health and Rehabilitation Center, Felicia Washington, Rose Grace, and Mary Miller for all of their love and care.

Visitation services will begin at 6:00 pm Thursday, April 25, 2024 at Thomas L. Carter Funeral Home in Flemington with a vigil and rosary service beginning at 7:00 pm. 

Funeral services will be held Friday, April 26, 2024 at 3:00 pm at Thomas L. Carter Funeral Home, Flemington with Father Adam Kasela officiating.  Entombment will follow in the mausoleum at Oglethorpe Memorial Gardens.
